Summers ZoWad | Mill House Texel

End of Summer at ZoWad!

ZoWad enjoys the last weeks of summer. It was a sunny, dry and fine summer. Very busy, but not too busy on the island, and lots of sun, sea and beach for our guests. And little wind: great cycling and walking weather.

Around the mill, there were many bird watchers this year because the Asian and African golden plover (rare) had settled here.

And we were busy with sheep breaking out and even diving into the millpond to cool off. Fortunately, they were all shorn in time, otherwise their fur coats were far too warm.

Borre has painted the entire exterior of the Mill House (black), we are mowing ourselves silly (growing weather) and nature is beautiful this summer with lots of field flowers.

The prices for the 2026 season have all been introduced. Due to the VAT increase on holiday home rentals (from 9 to 21 per cent!) and inflation, we have also had to adjust our prices, but some of it we take care of ourselves. Very annoying but it is no different...maybe one day our government will come to its senses again.

In any case, The Mill Cottage is already well booked for the autumn and for 2026. We go to great lengths to give you more than value for your rent (and experience)!

Tips:

  • 15 November national entry of Sinterklaas, this year on Texel (Oudeschild).
  • The terrace and restaurant of 'T Hanenhuus - at golf club Texel (near De Cocksdorp) really comes highly recommended: it's really not posh, not expensive and there's nice relaxed atmosphere. And: the food is more than excellent!
  • Our neighbour Marcel (TX guide) organises various nature-trekking tours, including on the Wadden behind our (and his) house: an excellent opportunity to walk Wadden!
  • Pole 15: recommended for eating, drinking and enjoying the beach.
  • Paal 17 New Beachclub: hip and you sit well on the lovely terrace. Portions are quite small, though. Open kitchen: nice!
  • Hiking: can be done nicely at The Secret - forest on the way to Jan Ayeslag (found via Google).
  • Ice cream: at the Giant Strawberry and at ice cream farm Labora: both nearby :-)!

And so there are plenty of ways to have fun on Texel. Have fun, nice end of summer and maybe see you at ZoWad in the Mill House or in the Mill Suite.

Friendly island greetings,

Jet, Borre and dog & PR lady Moetje
